Snapology: Lego Robotics

 

Bot Builders (PK-1): in this challenge-focused program, your student will begin to develop their computational thinking skills by playing with modular, robotic cubes known as Cubelets! Imagine this - every way your student snaps the magnetic cubes together creates a unique robot, but what really matters is how they figure out the perfect robot recipe to solve a challenge. They will work in small teams to figure out how to create lighthouses, racer bots, wheelie bots, goofy animals, and so much more! Is your student ready to play and tinker all day with Snapology?

  • When: Mondays (April 21 - June 9): 3:30-4:30pm

  • Grades: Pre-K through 1st Grade

Chess

 

Chess (K-5): embark on an exciting chess journey with esteemed instructor and FIDE Master Slava Mikhailuk from Ellen Art School. This enrichment program offers a comprehensive approach to chess education. Each session begins with explanations of key chess concepts, followed by hands-on puzzle solving in workbooks to reinforce learning. Students will enjoy ample time for friendly gameplay, honing their skills in a supportive environment. With a focus on all aspects of the game, including openings, middlegame strategies, and endgame techniques, our class empowers students to elevate their chess prowess so that even beginner chess players can be ready for tournament play!

  • When: Mondays (April 21 - June 9): 3:30-4:30pm

  • Grades: Kindergarten through 5th Grade (Class not offered to Pre-K students at this time.)

Challenge
Island

 

Mythological Island (PK-1): this extraordinary island is teeming with mythological entities and legendary creatures. Kids will build projects that include: Dracula’s Blood Drive, Hydra Head Launch, Medusa’s Pet Rock Playground, Bigfoot Treetop Track, and Monster Truck Arena in the thrilling, spine-chilling, and science-filled Mythological Island. During the exciting adventures, students learn about composition of liquids (e.g. blood), investigate chemical reactions, and understand principles of thrust when they build air powered launchers. The goal of all Challenge Island classes is to develop the whole child; besides educational activities, students will also practice leadership and public speaking in a group setting. Let the adventure begin!

Drama

 

Drama: Act, Sing, & Dance! (PK-1): we are partnering with Studio East again to bring the magic of theater to After Care! Learn to act, sing, and dance in this interactive drama class that teaches young actors how to use their voice, body language, and imagination to bring stories to life through musical numbers. Students will learn songs and gain confidence in using their voice and speaking in front of an audience. All of this rehearsing will culminate in a fun small showcase for the final class! Break a leg, kids!

  • When: Wednesdays (April 16 - June 11): 3:30-4:30pm

iCode

 

iCode (K-5) students learn a wide variety of programming and coding skills in this exciting class! We are offering two different grade levels of classes with the following areas of focus:

Lower Level (K-1) 3:30-4:30pm

  • Typing Practice and Introduction to Programming.

  • Students will practice typing, using the keyboard commands, and get an introduction to programming using Scratch Jr.

Upper Level (2-5) 4:45-5:45pm

  • Scratch, Digital Art, and Game Development.

  • Students will learn how to code using Scratch and create their own games by learning digital art and the game design process.

  • When: Thursdays (April 17 - June 12)

  • Cost:  $350

  • Class Limit: 12 students per class

Martial Arts

 

Karate (K-3): join Karate-X for awesome classes that are disciplined, challenging, and fun! Students will build self-confidence while learning and practicing Karate skills with punching bags, breaking boards, blocking drills, kicking targets and more! This class will culminate in a belt-ranking ceremony! Karate-X has been teaching in the Puget Sound for 25 years, with a Martial Arts program specifically designed for preschool and elementary students. This class fills quickly so act fast!

  • When: Thursdays (April 17 - June 12): 3:30-4:30pm

  • Grades: Kindergarten through 3rd Grade (Class not offered to Pre-K students at this time.)
